This blog cracks me up!

JAM BAND FAN OR TALIBAN

Can you tell the freaks from the fanatics?  My average is pretty high, but some of them could really go either way.

pic-0067.jpgJust a few random thoughts about my recent JamBand excursion, going home for a few days to catch 3 WSP shows. I was lucky enough to see the 2 weekend nights at Radio City & then again at the awesome Bethel Woods Amphitheater on Sunday night:

Why doesn’t Widespread Panic sell more tickets in NYC? Seems like 3 years in a row that multiple night Radio City shows are never sold out. Tickets are available readily outside the door from people happy to get $20.00 back for the $60.00 ticket they snapped up on Ticketmaster. I bet it may be Back to The Beacon, next time around, which is really not such a bad thought. I wish they played their summer shows in NYC at Central Park Summerstage. With that being said, I still like going to shows at RCMH. It is a beautiful room, and IMO it sounds really great in there. Download awesome FLAC files of this show now at The Traders Den.

Ashefest JamBand Music FestivalAs if The Heavy Pets weren’t reason enough to attend this Jam Band Music Festival being held August 24th through the 26th, 2007 in beautiful Deerfields, NC, which is located 20 minutes south of Asheville in the Mills River Community. The retreat is a 940-acre family owned tract of unspoiled wilderness, surrounded by ponds, apple orchards and rhododendrons cascading throughout the Queens Creek Mountains. Particle, New Monsoon, RAQ, & Bobby Lee Rodgers & the Code Talkers head the bill on what will surely be three days of music, camping & fun.

Please checkoout the rest of the 30 + band lineup at The 2007 Ashefest official site, or CLICK HERE to buy tickets now!

jerry-2.jpgJerry Garcia would have turned 65 tomorrow. Jerry Garcia was born August 1, 1942 and died along with a slice of my youth almost 12 years ago on August 9, 1995. I STILL MISS JERRY!

…And now for something completely different… From The Post Chronicle (Not that I have ever heard of it!) So I guess it has all come down to this. You can buy the bidet that was in Jerry Garcia’s home. The guy who bought the contents of Jerry’s home about 10 years ago, is from Marin County, California & expects to make around $75,000.00, when the items hit Ebay on or around August 12th. Seems like a fairly professional job to me, given the advance PR.  What a nice way to commemorate Jerry G!

Will you bid on a bidet? The thought of it is really kind of gross.

With big thanks to Marc Robbins & his helpful blog post regarding a similar experience he had with his A4.  END RESULT:  $5.00 Sylvania replacement bulb & a $4.00 “star” shaped screwdriver, 10 minutes easy labor, headlight is as good as new!  Thanks again Marc for the helpful instructions, although on an 2001 A6, you can skip the reach for the flat screws!  They were not there in my 2.7T.  YOU ROCK MARC!

01.jpgWOW! I really love THE HEAVY PETS straight from the sunny south Florida jam band scene. THE HEAVY PETS are certainly for real, believe the hype & get on the bus now. Go see some great live music this summer and catch “The Pets” on tour now. Be sure to check with the venues for times & ticket info, but go see this band in these small, intimate venues while you still can. It wont be long till they are playing to much larger crowds. Also, be sure to check out the debut release WHALE. This awesome double CD is sure to be collectible & is well worth the listen. Sometimes they sound like Phish, They can be as funky as G Love & Special Sauce, but all with a style and charisma that sets this terrificly fun band apart from the rest and truly gives them a unique and exhilarating sound.

Rapper KRS-One’s Son Found Dead in Atlanta in Apparent Suicide

The son of hip-hop legend KRS-One was found dead in his apartment in an apparent suicide, authorities said Tuesday.

Randy Hubbard Parker, 23, died of a gunshot wound to the head and the death was classified as a suicide, said Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office investigator Mark Guilbeau.

Parker had suffered a long battle with depression, his mother, Simone G. Parker, said in a statement on Tuesday. He was found on Friday.

Parker was a graphic designer and fashion entrepreneur seeking employment in Atlanta. His family said a private memorial service will be held on July 18, which would have been Parker’s 24th birthday.

A memorial service in New York, where Parker was born, is scheduled for August.

KRS-One is a rap pioneer whose hits include “Criminal Minded,” “Black Cop,” and “The Bridge is Over.”

Dave Alper’s quick & favorable review of Ratdog in Central Park makes this Florida based, transplanted NYC hippie a little jealous that I was not shaking it with my patchouli soaked brethren on this steamy night at the Summer Stage in Central Park. Steve Kimock is for sure a fantastic guitar player and the song selection seems great. Alper sure seems to be “on the bus” as compared to this somewhat lackluster review of the show in Boston, only a night before. Could Keller Williams‘ on stage presence really be so annoying as to ruin what seems to be another fine set by Bob Weir & company? Somehow I doubt it, but then again, Bobby saved the Franklin’s Tower for New York City, so perhaps Christopher Blagg from The Boston Herald was just a night early & missed the timeless advice….”If you get confused, listen to the music play”. Can’t wait till Ratdog rolls into the tri-state area again in mid August, next time with The Allman Brothers Band.
